Soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is asking a federal choose in Las Vegas to dismiss a lawsuit by a Nevada female. She claims the Portuguese national raped her at the Palms Casino Resort in 2009.
Attorneys for Ronaldo also want Mayorga’s attorney, Leslie Stovall, to be sanctioned for handling stolen paperwork. These have been private files lifted from the athlete’s authorized group by an unidentified cyberhacker doing work for the “Football Leaks” web site.
The Ronaldo camp contends these documents have been falsified.
“Stovall … not only employed those people documents as exhibits to general public filings in this case, but also as assistance for his ask for that the Las Vegas Metropolitan Law enforcement Department reopen a decade-aged investigation to prosecute [Ronaldo],” statements the submitting.
“No sanction fewer than dismissal will suffice,” it carries on. “At a minimum amount, Stovall should be disqualified from acting as counsel in this make any difference.”
Kathryn Mayorga documented her alleged rape to Las Vegas Metro Law enforcement on July 13, 2009, the day following she says it took put. But fearing damaging publicity, she declined to title the perpetrator, other than describing a “European soccer participant.” She submitted DNA and underwent a health care examination.
Law enforcement reopened the case in 2018 soon after the new lawsuit surfaced. But it was dropped in early 2021. The allegations could not “be proven further than a reasonable doubt,” in the phrases of the Clark County District Attorney’s Business office.
Ronaldo does not deny meeting Mayorga at the Palms but claims the sex that happened in the resort’s penthouse suite was consensual.
Mayorga signed a non-disclosure arrangement in 2010, agreeing to fall her allegations versus the athlete in return for $375,000. But she sued in 2018, arguing she was coerced into signing the settlement by Ronaldo’s “legal fixers” at a time when she says she was “mentally incapacitated.”
The psychological trauma of the sexual assault, the worry of community humiliation and retaliation, and the reiteration of all those fears by regulation enforcement and medical providers left plaintiff terrified and not able to act or advocate for herself,” according to her attorneys.
They say Mayorga believed she was remaining compensated for her decline, whereas, in fact, the settlement was built to derail a police investigation into a criminal act.
The “stolen and falsified” document in issue was handed to German information magazine Der Spiegel in Oct 2018 by the hacktivist Football Leaks web page. The document’s publication appeared to be the catalyst for Mayorga to sue Ronaldo.
It purports to be an “information-collecting questionnaire” sent to Ronaldo by his legal crew shortly following the alleged incident. In it, a man or woman alleged to be Ronaldo, but referred to in the documents as “X,” appears to admit he engaged in non-consensual intercourse with Mayorga.
Some information of X’s description of the incident look to match the account Mayorga originally gave to Las Vegas police, such as that he “entered her from powering,” that she regularly shouted “no,” and that he apologized to her afterwards.
Ronaldo has described the statements as “fake news.”
